Child's Play mark 2 ....

My second layout for Child's Play Challenges was from challenge #4 - bingo cards.

Get ready, we're about to play BINGO!! We'd love to see you create a layout inspired by this classic game!

I'm actually quite a fan of bingo cards - that's probably why I seem to have a truckload of them amongst my stash.  Might be time to pull one out and use it eh!

It's Child's Play really ...

Being a bit of a kid this month and playing along over on Child's Play Challenges.  I have a number of older photographs of my son I really need to get scrapped and this might just let me have a bit of fun while doing them.

I've chose two of their challenges for March and have done one layout in paper and the other in digital as I seem to scrap about 50/50 these days.

First layout is digital for challenge #2 - Sesame Street.

Can you tell me how to get to SESAME STREET? We'd love to see you create a layout inspired by the timeless programming of Sesame Street!

Well yes Sesame Street is certainly timeless - it has been around so long I can remember watching it as a child myself (and I don't think it has changed all that much lol).  Both my kids loved this show.  I can clearly recall them sitting on the floor giggling their heads off over the antics of Bert and Ernie and loving the sheer grouchiness of Oscar.  I decided to go with the direct "letter of alphabet" format.

stay tuned for layout number 2 in next post.

The Studio Challenges for March ...

I think I am only going to have time to do the one challenge from The Studio Challenges this month.  The recipe challenge set by team member Kat.

-kraft cardstock

-at least one tag

-paint/mist

-at least 2 different kids of alphas

I enjoyed putting this layout together with a photograph of my husband and son and utilised both tags to actually tell the story.  It reads "Thousands of little moments with Dad makes my story complete".  I used bit and pieces of patterned paper from my scrap tray and all criteria has been followed.

A couple of cards ...

I've needed to make three cards this month and decided since I was getting creative anyway I might as well combine them with a challenge (or two).

The first card was for a friend of mine who is currently in hospital and I used the challenge from Orange Paperie to use hexagonals as well as stamping.  I hope this is acceptable - I did search the blog but could not find anywhere that said challenge entries had to be layouts.

The second card for the birthday of one of my son's friends and I used The Lollipop Ladies challenge #65 using colourful rock candy for inspiration and the added criteria of music.

I also did a card for a family friend using challenge #64 (stripes and flowers) but then realised I had missed the deadline.  So many challenge sites now list all their challenges with an end of month deadline regardless of whether they have weekly, fortnightly or monthly challenges and I'm afraid I tend to forget which one's don't - Oh well, here it is anyway.

About a Boy ... Scraps ...

The second part of the challenge over on About a Boy was to use scraps ...

Once my first layout was completed I was left with two tiny strips of paper and two journaling cards. I pulled out a fairly neutral patterned paper from my stash to act as background and then sorted through my scrap tray for a couple of paper pieces that would work with this. A few more buttons and voila.

One partial kit down ... only a gazillion more to go !!!

About a Boy - hoarders ... that's me ...

Here's a story about two layouts - prompted by the challenges this month on About a Boy ....

I am on a bit of a kick this year to use up some of my current stash - it would be safe to say that I could either a) set up my own store or b) scrap for another 20 years with what I have here at the moment.  Some of it I really need to cull - it's old, it isn't nice and I guess the reason it is still sitting here unused is because it's old and it isn't nice lol.  A lot of it, however, may not be current but is nice and I really need to use it.  So I've set my goal of not buying anymore scrapbooking product (other than adhesive) until I get this massive pile of "stuff" under control - it could take me years !!!

I do have a lot of kits I've picked up over hte years either by subscription, for classes or at retreats.  Usually I have used most the pack but have remnants left over - strips of paper, odd embellishments and journaling tags.  Too good to throw away right?  So they sit here and sit here, sometimes for years.

This layout was created from the very tail end of a kit that contained mostly papers from October Afternoon The Boyfriend line.  There were just a few strips of patterned paper and a couple of journaling cards left.  I've added a yellow cardstock sheet for the background and a couple of buttons.

Scrap It With a Song #4 ...

Scrap It With a Song is having fun with colours this month - in the spirit of St Patrick's Day they are searching for the pot of gold at the end of the RAINBOW and have a few fun color-themed songs for the playlist!

Week 4 this month is Somewhere over the rainbow sung by Judy Garland.  This is an all time favourite with me - not only because I loved the original Wizard of Oz movie but because this is a truly lovely version of this much copied song.

For my page I decided to use both a rainbow and also part of the lyrics of the songAnd let's face it - there is nothing more beautiful than a tiny baby sleeping :)

Scrap It With a Song #3 ...

Scrap It With a Song is having fun with colours this month - in the spirit of St Patrick's Day they are searching for the pot of gold at the end of the RAINBOW and have a few fun color-themed songs for the playlist!

The third song this month is True Blue by Madonna.

A tad too soppy for me I'm afraid so I took the relatively safe route and used the line "You're my best friend" from the lyrics and used a photo of my daughter with one of her besties when she was in high school.

Scrap It With a Song #2 ...

Scrap It With a Song is having fun with colours this month - in the spirit of St Patrick's Day they are searching for the pot of gold at the end of the RAINBOW and have a few fun color-themed songs for the playlist!

The second song this month is Lady in Red by Chris De Burgh. Another terrific choice. I always think of Princess Diana when I hear this song.

Of course I couldn't go past doing a layout in red with the line from the song Cheek to Cheek. This is my daughter and her boyfriend of 3 years - young love is amazing !

Challenge Me Happy #41 ...

Challenge Me Happy #41 is my sort of challenge.  It's anything goes which means I can sit down and create whatever I like which is what I did last night.  I was in a vintage sort of mood so pulled out a photograph of my MIL when she was 19.  This is her (second from left) as an usherette at her local cinema.  Can you just image the kids of today prancing up and down the stairs in these tight skirts and with heels like these ladies were wearing ... I think not!!

I've used Crate Paper Random papers and accessories.  I so love Crate Paper, one of my favourite lines.

Scrap It With a Song in March ...

Scrap It With a Song is having fun with colours this month - in the spirit of St Patrick's Day they are  searching for the pot of gold at the end of the RAINBOW and have a few fun color-themed songs for the playlist!

The first song is Purple Rain by Prince - have to say a favourite of mine.

I took this song literally doing a layout using a photograph of dark and menacing storm clouds approaching.  I added to this atmospheric feel by using grey and purple colour tones.

I wonder what the next colour will be?

Some Archi-scraps for March ...

Our inspiration photo for March's challenge on Archi-scraps is this cute little hobbit type house and our theme this month is fairytales.

When I first saw the March inspiration of a lopsided little cottage I immediately thought of the long closed Fantasy Glades at Port Macquarie where we took my daughter when she was small. She loved all the little people sized buildings and was fascinated with the Crocked House which slated this way and that with wonky chairs and odd shaped windows and everything on strange angles. I’ve used an older JBS story patterned paper to enhance the fairy-tale aspect of this layout and rather than have a separate title I’ve chosen to use a photo of one of the park signs which explains how Fantasy Glades came into being. I believe the derelict park has recently been sold and there are plans afoot to reopen this magical children’s theme park.

Love to see your interpretation of this little house so come play with us.
